I was fortunate enough to eat at a fabulous restaurant in Miami Beach recently, Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar. The decor was Mexican meet goth and the food was delish. They started off by serving a palate cleanser of dry ice which they poured tequila over. As if that wasn’t good enough, they followed with hot tortilla chips that were perfectly salted and four salsas, and then of course dinner. And just when we thought things couldn’t get any better, they came out with COTTON CANDY! Well you’d have thought we all hit the jackpot.
So this got me thinking about the “fun food” craze that has hit the events scene. Hosts are throwing these amazing events with extravagant food, spectacular table decor, and outstanding music, all to entertain friends and family as they celebrate their momentous occasions. And then, as the guests leave, out comes the popcorn machine, the hot dog concession stand or the specialty coffee cart. Seems like the worse the food is for you, the more excited guests are!
There is something about these foods that we associate with childhood. Those feelings of exuberant happiness and enlightenment that is filled with good feelings. And while a sense of nostalgia will likely be properly placed throughout your special day in a more elegant fashion during the ceremony or a special toast, leaving your guests all giddy because they get to grab their favorite novelty treat off the ice cream truck as they venture home is just plain fun and sure to put a smile on their faces!
